Anchor the date
Use NWS Raleigh or another official weather record for event context and record when the property condition was first discovered. Do not treat a broad area report as proof that one roof was struck or that a visible mark is new. Keep the official source and the property observation in separate fields.
Photograph safely
Use ground-level, window, vehicle, siding, gutter, screen, or fallen-debris views that can be reached safely. Preserve originals and location notes. Do not climb or chalk the roof. Marks on metal, shingles, vents, or gutters can have different causes and should be identified by a qualified inspection.
Compare the inspection record
Ask the inspector to label roof faces, materials, conditions, photographs, access, limitations, and reasoning. Distinguish functional condition, appearance, prior wear, installation, and other storm evidence. If several reports disagree, compare dates, examined areas, methods, and definitions rather than counting opinions.
Keep coverage with the carrier
Notify the insurer according to the policy and ask what documentation, temporary action, and inspection it requires. A roofer can document physical conditions and propose work, but the carrier determines its coverage position. Retain communications, estimates, receipts, and permanent authorizations by date.
Put the roof question into words
Have the property type, safe observation, date, and existing records ready. Ask the recipient to identify the company and confirm whether the address and roof concern fit its work.
Raleigh Roofing Comparison Desk is a roofing information and referral publisher, not the roofing contractor. A call may connect you with an independent provider or call service. Confirm the recipient, Raleigh coverage, service fit, credentials, insurance, availability, price, permit responsibility, and contract terms before authorizing work.
