Decision guide

Put roof condition, attachment, removal, electrical, and warranty roles on one schedule

Solar and roofing scopes meet at attachments, penetrations, access, schedule, and two or more warranty systems.

Avoid reopening a finished roof by coordinating the parties and records before work.

01

Identify systems and parties

Gather array layout, equipment and attachment records, installer, owner, utility or interconnection documents when relevant, roof product, roof warranty, and prior leak or repair history. Confirm who has authority to disconnect, remove, store, reinstall, and commission equipment.

02

Map every interface

Mark attachments, penetrations, wiring paths, conduits, roof setbacks, drains, ridges, vents, access paths, and replacement boundaries. Ask how attachment holes are handled if equipment moves. Do not assume the roofing company or solar company warrants the other's work.

03

Write the sequence

Set dates, weather contingencies, temporary protection, equipment storage, inspection points, photographs before concealment, and responsibility for delays. If the array remains, define safe access and protection. If it is removed, define who confirms the roof is ready before reinstallation.

04

Reconcile warranties and closeout

Ask each issuer how the planned work affects its written terms and what documentation it requires. Keep roof and solar closeout records together: attachment details, flashing, product, roof map, electrical sign-off when applicable, changes, warranties, and commissioning records.

Put the roof question into words

Have the property type, safe observation, date, and existing records ready. Ask the recipient to identify the company and confirm whether the address and roof concern fit its work.
