Decision guide

Match intake and exhaust work to actual connected roof spaces

A ridge product and a soffit product help only when they are part of a connected, compatible, and documented path.

Tie ventilation scope to mapped compartments and observed conditions.

01

Map compartments first

Identify main attics, additions, vaulted areas, knee walls, dormers, bulkheads, and separated bays. Mark accessible and inaccessible areas. A calculation for one open attic should not be copied onto a roof section that has blocking or no connected intake.

02

Record the evidence basis

Ask which moisture, heat, frost, deck, insulation, air-leakage, exhaust, or covering observation led to the proposal. Record measurement location, date, indoor and outdoor conditions, and author. Do not diagnose mold or indoor-air health from appearance alone.

03

Compare the physical work

List intake openings, baffles, screens, blocking removal, ridge or roof exhaust, gable features, deck cuts, flashing, covering tie-in, and mechanical exhaust termination. Identify air sealing or insulation work performed by another qualified party.

04

Set follow-up conditions

Define how an open path is confirmed and what observations will be repeated after work. Seasonal weather and occupancy can change moisture evidence, so a one-day visual check may not close the question. Keep the compartment map and other-trade handoffs.

Put the roof question into words

Have the property type, safe observation, date, and existing records ready. Ask the recipient to identify the company and confirm whether the address and roof concern fit its work.
