Start with the current city route
The City of Raleigh's permit application guide directs users to the Permit and Development Portal and says to use Ask Raleigh when a project type is unclear. Search the address and describe the actual work. Do not assume every repair, reroof, solar interface, or structural change uses the same process.
Check development records
Use the city development-record and residential-permit resources to locate permit types, project information, workflow, payment, and inspection routes. Match the property address, applicant, contractor, scope, and status. A proposal statement is not the permit record.
Verify local historic status
Raleigh states that exterior changes in its regulated local historic areas and to Raleigh Historic Landmarks require a Certificate of Appropriateness. Use the city's iMAPS directions and preservation contact before changing exterior material or appearance. National Register status and local designation are not interchangeable.
Keep approval before work
Place required application, approval, permit, inspection, revision, and closeout records in the project file. Record who is responsible for each step. If the scope changes after opening, ask whether the approval or permit needs revision before proceeding.

Have the property type, safe observation, date, and existing records ready. Ask the recipient to identify the company and confirm whether the address and roof concern fit its work.
