Identify the assembly
Ask which substrate receives the underlayment, whether old material is removed, and how the surface is prepared. Record steep and low-slope areas separately. Existing deck gaps, repairs, moisture, fasteners, or residue may affect the appropriate preparation.
Map product by roof zone
Request exact product or performance basis, attachment, laps, eaves, valleys, walls, penetrations, low-slope transitions, and temporary exposure limits. If more than one membrane is used, mark each area. A proposal that says synthetic underlayment does not show the transition design.
Coordinate weather protection
Ask how much roof can be opened, how the building is made weather-tight each day, what happens if weather changes, and whether underlayment is intended as temporary dry-in under stated conditions. Do not infer an unlimited exposure promise.
Preserve concealed evidence
Before covering, keep labeled photographs of deck preparation, repair areas, laps, valleys, walls, penetrations, and transitions. Retain product identifiers and approved substitutions. The record should show the installed zone, not only a roll beside the building.
Put the roof question into words
Have the property type, safe observation, date, and existing records ready. Ask the recipient to identify the company and confirm whether the address and roof concern fit its work.
