Decision guide

Map collection, outlets, leaders, and the visible discharge

The useful question is not simply gutter size. It is how water reaches an outlet and where it goes next.

Compare visible drainage components and keep underground or site scope separate.

01

Trace contributing roof areas

Map roof faces, valleys, steep discharge points, lower roofs, gutters, drains, outlets, and overflows. Note additions and places where one roof concentrates water onto another. Ask the provider which areas informed its quantity and layout.

02

Describe the visible system

Compare profile, material, finish, hangers, spacing basis, slope, seams, corners, outlets, downspouts, straps, elbows, guards, screens, fascia repairs, edge metal, and discharge pieces. Product width alone does not define attachment or outlet capacity.

03

Define the tested boundary

Ask how flow is observed and where the provider's responsibility ends. Water entering a buried leader does not prove its destination or condition. Record any underground, grading, foundation, or public drainage review as separate work.

04

Plan maintenance access

Identify trees, debris, screens, safe service routes, snow or ice concerns, entrances, and accessible paths. Leave elevated cleaning to qualified parties. Keep a drainage map and maintenance guidance with the roof record so future changes do not block an overflow or redirect discharge.

Put the roof question into words

Have the property type, safe observation, date, and existing records ready. Ask the recipient to identify the company and confirm whether the address and roof concern fit its work.
